Welcome to

Engogo

riverside Lodge

Engogo Riverside Lodge, in the “klein Drakensberge” near Newcastle, offers three self-catering fishermen style cottages overlooking a crystal-clear stream and beautiful waterfall. The three units are ideal for family gatherings, but also private enough if rented separately. The 4km stretch of the Ngogo River at Engogo is the venue’s main attraction. There are rapids, glides, shallow and deep pools and waterfalls to enjoy. The landscape is mountainous and is dominated by wild grassland and indigenous mountain forest. With over 700 hectares to explore, visitors can enjoy numerous short walks as well as longer hikes from the cottages to waterfalls, natural swimming pools in the river, birding sites and mountain view sites. Apart from the threatened Bald-headed Ibis that breed in a rockface near the lodge, various unusual bird species can be sited near the lodge. Enjoy evenings either in front of the cosy fireplaces in winter or outside under the stars on balmy summer nights.

The rooms

where to sleep

The cottages are very comfortably furnished, with fully equipped kitchen and fireplaces, duck feather duvets and electric blankets to ensure a cosy stay during the cold winters. The three units can be booked separately or all together for family and friend get-togethers. The lodge is serviced daily and firewood for the fireplaces and braai is free of charge. No TV or Wifi available.

Self-catering

accommodation

Guests have a choice of three cottages that accommodate two, five and eight people respectively. Cottages operate on a combination of gas and electricity, with indoor fireplaces and outside braais. All units are fully equipped for self-catering and are serviced daily free of charge. All accommodation can be accessed with a normal sedan.
